Another fact that would cause conflict between the United States and Mexico was the fact that the Mexican government had a completely outlawed slavery within their territory and that all of the Mexican settlers had to become Catholic, further angering the majority Protestant American settlers. The conflicts in touch this between Mexican government in the United States government would cause Mexico to close off their northern boundaries and borders to American settlers.
