1 Jan 1900 Jahr - Impact of Industrialization: Working Women
Beschreibung:
About 5% of married women worked outside of home by 1900, with 1 out of 5 adult women being in the labor force. Many families believed that a women’s role should still be at home raising the children, if they could afford it. When the demand for clerical workers increased, women filled in for male jobs such as secretaries, bookkeepers, typists, and telephone operators. These jobs eventually became feminized and lost their status, lowering the wages and salaries for those jobs.
