In 1997, John Kricfalusi, creator of The Ren and Stimpy Show created The Goddamn George Liquor Program, the first ever flash animated cartoon made specifically for the internet. (Simpson, 2007). Other flash cartoons followed such as Whirlgirl, which was the first regularly scheduled Flash animated web series. The show aired exclusively on the Showtime website. (Amid, 1999). Many well-known cartoons throughout the rest of the 90s and the early 2000s would be animated in this new Flash style, as animators were drawn to the low cost and the program’s ease of use.
