Jocelyn Bell Burnell observed regular and rhythmic pulses coming from the same location in the sky. They weren't sure if it was an alien signal, but after a second source was found in the sky, they ruled that out and assumed it was a regular radio emission coming from a star.

It was an expansion of our knowledge on Neutron Stars, but it also showed how prevalent sexism was in Astronomy. While the pair was being interviewed Hewish would be asked on the astrophysics, and she would be asked about vital statistics, how many boyfriends she had, what colour is her hair, and asked to undo some buttons for the photographs.
