After Khrushchev resigned, Brezhnev eventually became the dominant figure of the USSR. Under Brezhnev's control, the USSR invaded Afghanistan and many of Stalin's policies removed by Khrushchev were reimplemented by Brezhnev. However, Brezhnev eventually died at 75 and was succeeded by Mikhail Gorbachev.
