In a secret speech to the Party Congress in Russia, Khrushchev denounced the crimes of Stalin. He claimed in his speech that Stalin originated the concept of "enemy of the people" which allowed him to violently repress those who disagreed with him. Khrushchev attacked Stalin's paranoia and his speech opened the way for neverseenbefore criticisms of the USSR's government and officials.
