Farm Problems (WXT) – The Coolidge presidency benefited industrialized businesses. Farmers did not share in this prosperity for several reasons. Farmers had been producing large amounts of food to keep up with the demands of the government for the war that was being fought in Europe. When the war ended, the US government did not have the need to spend as much money on farmers and so they didn’t. the farmers did not expect this and had borrowed money to create large amounts of crops. Because the large amounts of crops were already harvested and the debt was already taken out, the farmers were desperate to sell their crops. Because the war was over, not as many people needed food for as expensive , they didn't pay as much money as before. This meant that farmers were losing out on money and were stuck in debt because they cannot sell their crops. The farmers went through terrible times in the 1920s.
