1 Jan 1831 Jahr - Cherokee Nation v. Georgia
Beschreibung:
Rather than engage in military conflict, the Cherokee tried to fight their removal from their lands through the legal system. Their litigation against the State of Georgia went all they way to the Supreme Court, where they argued for recognition as a separate nation. However, the Supreme Court held they were a dependent nation. The significance was that the U.S. provided no recourse or protection to Indians and their forcible removal continued.
