This was the first major defeat for the Germans in World War II and stopped Nazi advances into Eastern Europe and Russia. Both sides would suffer from great lost with a number of Russian causalities. However, many German soldiers will be captured and taken as prisoners of war during this battle, changing the tides in the War.
