But, on the
other hand, there were thousands of Makhnovists in and around
Odessa with close connections with the Foreign Centre. It is by no
means proven with whom "Leva" played fairly and whom he used as
a screen. It is equally possible to believe that Zinkovsky remained
an anarchist till the end of his days "by virtue of my political con-
victions as he declared at his interrogation. Lev Zinkovsky was
shot on September 25, 1938, in the cellar of the Kiev NKVD and
buried somewhere in Bykovna, one of the sections of the Darnitsky
woodland park complex.
Practically none of the other leading kontrrazvedniks outlived
their comrade. Nor did they betray their cause. Here is a bit about
