1 Jan 1890 Jahr - Sherman Antitrust Law

Beschreibung:

During the industrialization of the late 1800s, industrialists moved to consolidate industries and therefore minimize competition. In response to the monopolies that developed across industries, Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act which outlawed monopolies that prevented free competition in interstate commerce. However, lawmakers only intended to limit underhanded actions, and along with the judicial system which further bailed out corporate leaders in cases such as U.S. v. E.C. Knight, monopolies continued. The significance of this Act, is that although it did not create immediate, results in limiting harmful monopolies, it was later used by President Teddy Roosevelt to successfully file 25 suits against corporations, and set the precedent of the federal government regulating business trusts when the violate the public interest.
