IN 1501 Amerigo Vespucci led a prtuguese expedidition and he knew that it wasnt asia and knew that the Europeans didnt know where they were at so Vespucci called it the new worldwhich became known as America after a cartogropher or person who makes maps or cahrts suggested naming the land after Vespucci.
