Jamestown, Virginia was found on May 14th, 1607 by the English. During the American Civil War, Jamestown was used as a meeting place for runaway slaves by the Federal side. Today, the original site of Jamestown is administered by Preservation Virginia and the National Park Service. Jamestown celebrated its 400th anniversary and in 2019, Jamestown will hold a commemoration that marks the 400th anniversary.
