After the outbreak of WW1, Germany suffered heavily when it came to their economy and military. The Versailles treaty really took a major toll on Germany up until the time that Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany. He made moves to start remilitarizing the Rhineland which was supposed to stay demilitarized after WW1. This started to cause more tension between Germany and foreign powers.
