Beschreibung:

Bill C-31 amended the Indian Act and discrimination based on gender is amended. Indigenous women who married non-status males could get their status back and did not have to take their husbands status. The status of the parents was not passed down to the children and children who were born of the second generation would not be able to maintain status.
Women are no longer required to follow their husband's in and out of status.
Women were still discriminated against, as the lines of descent of men were sill used.
