the league of nations met for the first time in Geneva Switzerland as it was neutral during the first war.
it was founded by 4 members: Britain, France, Italy and japan , these countries held a veto and were permanent members. however there were 3 very important members which were not didn't/couldn't join. the countries were: Germany, who wasn't invited because they were defeated ( this made the league of nations look like a club of victors); Russia was not invited because there had been a communist revolution and the western countries were scared of their influence which it could hold: USA had voted not to join a lot of Americans hated the idea because they saw it as petty squabbles between European countries which had nothing to do with American people, Wilson campaigned all over the country but in the end the us voted for a policy of isolationism.
the league had 4 aims:
-To stop wars
-Improve living & working conditions across the world
-Disarmament
-To tackle drugs, crime and disease
