21 Okt 1920 Jahr - It is well known how much significance the Bolsheviks attached to the fact that the peasants called Makhno "Batko." In Chapter 3 we described how and in what cir- cumstances he was given this name. After 1920 he was usually called "Malyi" ("Shorty''), a nickname referring to his short stature, which was introduced by chance by one of the insurgents.
