The US implements its second and final use of the atomic bomb, nicknamed the Fat Man, over Nagasaki, Japan. This killed somewhere between 39,000 and 80,000 people who were largely civilians, and rendered the subsequent surrender of Japan. This marked the end of the war on the Pacific Front.
