Beschreibung:
Rutherford theoreticized a new atomic model in 1911 where he included a positive structure which we now call protons, however, he called them alpha particles due to how big they were compared to electrons. He concluded that there had to be a large positive structure in the middle of the atom through his gold foil experiment. In this experiment he shot out alpha particles towards a gold sheet, he expected the particles to travel right through based on Thomson's model, however, this was not the case. Some of the alpha particles rebounded in random directions as though they hit something and were deflected. This contradicts what Thompson said with his plum pudding model due to the fact that he stated that the whole atom was a positive "soup " with negative charges floating. This is incorrect and now we know that positive charge is in fact in the nucleus of an atom cuasing random defection if it hit at just the right angle.
