Eli Whitney invented the Cotton Gin in 1793,

The Cotton Gins' purpose was to revolutionize the picking of Cotton. While before, a person could clean one pound of Cotton a day, the COtton Gin could clean fifty, and only needed someone to manage it.

The Cotton Gin:
1. Increased cotton production.

2. Increased demand for slave labor.

3.Sectional disputes between free and slave states increased as slavery spread.
