8 Feb 1877 Jahr - The Dawes Act

Beschreibung:

The Dawes Act, also known as the General Allotment Act was the federal policy towards Native Americans from 1870-1900. This act marked a change in policies towards Native Americans with the idea that if you were to grant a Native American land and bring towards the life of the white man, the government wouldn't need to be so involved in Native American affairs. This though would not extend to a number of certain tribes as well as the Indian territory in what is now present-day Oklahoma. Furthermore, the point of this act was to protect the property rights of the Natives Americans.
