The management of Addax Petroleum Nigeria Ltd. on Saturday confirmed to Independent On Sunday that the Chief Executive Office of its Geneva Office, Zhang Yi, and the legal director had been arrested over the company’s business inNigeria. Independent On Sunday gathered that Geneva Prosecutor’s Office was conducting a criminal investigation into allegations with spotlight primarily on the Addax’s business in Nigeria.

The company’s Communications Officer, Michael Owhoko, confirmed this in a statement forwarded to IndependentOn Sunday in Lagos yesterday.

The statement disclosed that Addax Petroleum is taking the matter seriously and will be responding appropriately to the investigation.

The terse holding statement said: “Addax Petroleum confirms that a criminal investigation is being conducted by the Geneva Prosecutor’s Office in relation to allegations focusing primarily on the Company’s business in Nigeria.

AddaxPetroleum is taking this matter very seriously and will be responding appropriately to the investigation. As this matter is the subject of an ongoing investigation, we are unable to comment further at present.”

The chief executive officer and legal director of Addax Petroleum, Geneva, have both been arrested in Geneva and charged with suspected bribery of foreign officials.
