23 März 1650 Jahr - Oliver Cromwell (1650)

Beschreibung:

Oliver Cromwell, a devout Puritan, was one of the most brilliant commanders in English history, and, along with Parliamentary support, he and his Independents bested Charles I in the English Civil War setting up the short lived Commonwealth of England. Cromwell led the Republic as Lord Protector, but it shortly devolved into a military rule, as Cromwell repeatedly took control to stop Irish and Scottish insurrections as well as general banditary until he died in 1658. He is more important than his successor, Charles II (a Stuart), because under his leadership and victory in the English Civil War, the preeminence of Parliamentary control in England was created, whereas Charles II’s son (James II) was later deposed by William of Orange because of his own original disputes with Parliament.
