In light of the liberal shift of the 1960s, the SBC increasingly opposed the dangerous attacks on Scripture’s message and authority. As such, by 2000, the SBC changed the BF&M to reassert and codify the convention’s affirmation of Scripture’s inerrancy. This act was the capstone of the SBC’s Conservative Resurgence. On the other hand, the BF&M 2000 reaffirmed the 1963 version on the fall of man (at best, by oversight, and, at worst, in affirmation of soteriological liberalism), leaving the door open for Semi-Pelagianism. As such, the revised BF&M 2000 is of mixed value to the SBC; it stamped out a pressing attack on inerrancy, but it also left the back door open to similar attacks in the future.
