Hong Kong pro-business legislator Michael Tien wrote to the Hong Kong government urging it to withdraw the amendment bill and to remove the provisions in the existing Fugitive Offenders Ordinance that do not cover other parts of China. He also suggested the government to amend the legislation to empower Hong Kong courts to try extraterritorial criminal cases involving Hong Kong permanent residents in the future; if non-Hong Kong permanent residents are involoved, the Chief Executive should be empowered to respond to the jurisdictions requested for extradition as appropriate.
