In October of 2001, an american energy company by the name of Enron was the main subject of one of the largest accounting scandals in U.S. history. Members within the company knowingly falsified annual financial statements and cost shareholders $74 billion over the span of four years leading up to an inevitable bankruptcy. Employees also lost billions of dollars in pension benefits.
