Beschreibung:

~In 1975, the state of Texas had laws that essentially made it legal for schools to deny entrance of students based on their immigration status (being undocumented). Additionally, the state was allowed to keep funding for those students from school districts.
~School districts then began charging tuition for undocumented children to attend public schools, up to $1000. While other students, citizens, were able to attend for free.
~A class action lawsuit was then brought up by 4 immigrant families against this policy saying it violated the 14th amendment Equal Protection Clause --states it is illegal to "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” (U.S Constitution 14th Amendment).
~The supreme court ruled in favor of the students and the court stated that:
1. Schools were not allowed to deny entrance to any undocumented student
2. Schools cannot ask students, or families, about their legal status in the U.S
3. Schools cannot make it a requirement for students to have a SSN
