1899-1901 - The "Boxer Rebellion" in the Northern part of China seeks to stifle, reforms in the Qing Administration to drive out the foreigners & reestablish the traditional rule. But defeated by the foreign intervention, (with western power) Japan & Russia began to extract further concessions from the very weakened Qing government.
