For the first time in over 1000 years, a French emperor is coronated when Napoleon quite literally crowns himself. The law stated Napoleon’s descendants would also become emperors, and if he didn’t have any kids, the title could go to an adopted heir or another member of the Bonaparte family. A vote was cast either in favour or against this law, and Napoleon won by a landslide, but means of ‘directing’ the vote in his favour were put in place, like all the military votes all being automatically in favour of Napoleon as emperor.
