Tempe police detectives were searching for a wanted fugitive from California around 9:30 a.m. and followed him into Mesa, police said. Detectives tried to arrest the man. Police said the officers felt threatened so they shot and killed the man. Details as to what precipitated the killing and what the threat might have been were withheld by police.
