24 Jan 1788 Jahr - The First Fleet arrived

On the 24th of January 1788 The First Fleet, consisting of 11 ships, arrived in Botany Bay from Portsmouth, England. They had sailed for more than 252 days. The 11 ships carried around 1480 Men, Women and Children. The majority of these were convicts from Britain, however some were from Africa, France and America. There were also a smaller number of seamen, their families and free people. As Cadigal aboriginal men met with crew from The First Fleet this marked the first interaction between Indigenous and Non indigenous Australians. By reports this first meeting was peaceful, however unfortunately this positive relationship did not last.
