Emma a farm girl had to be disguised as a man named Franklin Thompson. She had to dress as a male to escape a marriage she did not want to be apart of. No one knew about her being a female. "Frank" tried to be in the army but was not accepted due to her height. She finally was accepted into the army on her second try and became a three-year recruit.
