Israel’s government has rebooted a phone surveillance programme to order tens of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians back into lockdown after a surge in coronavirus cases.

The spy system, run by the Shin Bet agency, has informed a reported 30,000 people that they must return to quarantine, according to Haaretz.

“We are at the height of a new corona offensive. This is a very strong outbreak that is growing and spreading in the world and also here,” Binyamin Netanyahu, the prime minister said. “We are in a state of emergency.” (The Times)
