1 Jan 1827 Jahr - Trading post established by Cyprian Chouteau
Beschreibung:
1827 Trading post established by Cyprian Chouteau: In 1827, about a mile or so upstream from the Turner Bridge, a trading post was established by Cyprian Chouteau of that renowned fur trading family. A lucrative trade was established with the Shawnee and Delaware who resided on the west side of the river. How long this post operated is speculation. It appears, however, to have existed until at least 1845. It was here in 1842 that John C. Fremont completed preparations for an expedition into the Rocky Mountains.
