Betts who was indicted of robbery asked the judge for an attorney because he could not afford one the judge denied his request saying that your could only have one appointed if it was rape or murder. He tried and failed to convince the judge and was found guilty. He appealed his conviction on the ground that his 6th and 5th was breach. The Supreme Court rule against him, and his conviction was upheld.
