In 1953 the First Five Year Plan was developed and modeled after the Soviet Union, in order to transform China into a modern, industrialized nation.
The plan consisted of two parts: build up China’s industry and land reform.
Communists forced landlords to give land to peasants, which allowed the peasants to organize their new land into collective farms operated by the government
The First Five Year Plan was successful agriculturally, despite the death of millions during the brutal change
