Jean Jolio married Marie and Pierre Curie's daughter, Irene Curie, together they discovered artificial radioactivity by bombarding aluminium with alpha particle and that produced positron-emitting. This has been used to create a machine that helps doctors and helped us understand how different decays work and what they can do. For example some radioiostope are naturally too damaging as if injected can damage the healthy cells to a point where they cant self heal, but with artifical radioactivity docters can control the amount of radiation that is exposed the human body, the radiation would kill the cancer cells and while the healthy cells may be damaged they can heal again.
