24 Dez 1814 Jahr - Treaty of Ghent

Beschreibung:

Towards the conclusion of the War between Britain and the U.S, it was evident Great Britain was quite worn out for continuing their war efforts. The influence of having fought Napoleon for more than a decade, the opportunity for maintaining the peace in Europe became possible. On the opposite end, under the Madison Administration, it became recognized that the Americans would be unable to win a settling victory. Therefore, U.S peace commissioners traveled to Ghent, Belgium, to discuss and meet to terms of peaceful negotiation with British diplomats. An agreement was reached on 1814, which halted the combat, returned all conquered territory, and recognized the prewar boundary between Canada and the U.S. Notably, the Treaty of Ghent ratified by the Senate in 1815, involved no trace of the grievances which led to the war as Great Britain assumed no compromise concerning the impressment, blockades, or other maritime disputes. This influenced the idea that the war ended with no gain for either side and specifically on the U.S perspective the war achieved none of its original aims yet played a significant role in future developments of the American republic.
