The Catholic Church was linked to potential counter-revolution, since religion had no place in a rational, secular republic with its superstitious practices. The De-Christianization program adopted a new Republican calendar. The public exercise of religion was banned and names of religious symbols were changed. Robespierre created a holiday called the Festival of Reason to celebrate the new form of religion based on reason. The festival was held in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, which was even renamed the ¨Temple of Reason.¨ This is important because religion used to be the foundation of everything in Europe; however, with the logical advancements in the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment it left no space for Catholicism. People had finally been invested in reason over religion.
