The Legislative Assembly arrested the King and Queen to prevent further violence from the Austrian and Prussian armies. King Louis XVI was found guilty on trial for treason, and was sent through the streets of Paris to the guillotine to be executed. This was important because the death of both the King and Queen brought an end to the monarchy.
