This event is significant to the growth of the Roman Empire. In 27 BC, the city Rome became the Roman Empire. This is when the Roman leader Octavius appointed himself as "Augustus" which means first emperor. In total, there was 16 Western Roman Emperors and 88 Emperors from Eastern Rome/the Byzantine Empire. This is significant because without this event, Rome would not have become an Empire.
