Due to the Radicals collapse in late 1935 following a series of scandals, Alcalá Zamora had called new elections for February 1936. The Election of 1936 was won by the Popular Front which was a coalition who was known as an advocate for the restoration of Catalan autonomy, agrarian reform, and payment of damages those who suffered during the revolt of 1934. Anarchists refused to support The Popular Front and tried to impose their views to others. The National Front included the CEDA and the Carlists. 4,654,116 people voted for the Popular Front while the National Front obtained 4,503,505. The Popular Front won 263 seats out of the 473.
