what:
it came to an end when Hitler seized Czechoslovakia (i don't know if that's how you spell it) in his defiance of the promises he had given, Prime Minister Chamberlain, who had championed appeasement before, decided on a policy of resistance to further German attacks.

cause:
it's given to Britain's policy allowing Hitler to expand German territory unchecked. Hitler's aims became clear when his forces entered the Rhineland. Two years later he got Austria.

effect:
Hitler continued to invade territories and build a military capable of fighting a major war (despite the Treaty of Versailles) Britain/France allowed him to continue, hoping he would leave them alone if they left him alone.
