the right-wing government that came to power in 1934 started to reverse the previous reforms, and those supporting the reforms concluded that they could only win together. from here on out the right was united against the left, while the left was often divided between the communists, anarchists, socialists, and republicans. during their time in power, they rolled back many of the progressive policies enacted by the left-leaning government. strategies they used included a major "get out the vote" movement, where people even in hospitals were taken by the party to go and vote.
