Many people didn’t want what is now a symbol of France and a massive tourist attraction to be built at all calling it ugly and saying it would ruin the look of Paris. The tower was also not meant to last as it was supposed to be destroyed after 20 years, yet after two million people visited the tower during the universal exposition and being equally successful in the 1900 universal exposition the towers designer Gustave Eiffel went to great length to make sure his creation was not destroyed. To do this he tried to prove its scientific utility. Although there were experiments in the fields of astronomy and physiology what saved the tower was the possibility of using it as a radio antenna tower, the tower was used for military communications first then permanently for radiotelegraphy communications.

Significance-

It changed the outlook on France architecture and gained lots of tourist attraction. It also improved the communications; this became incredibly useful during world war 1. The Eiffel tower is also a landmark and a symbol of France these days.
