Germany attacked Poland because they were taking back land that they lost in WWI and they thought that it was their destiny to conquer all of the east. This invasion was also referred to by the German people as the 1939 Defensive War or, Verteidigungskrieg. It was called this because Hitler told the German people that Germans in Poland were being persicuted and driven from their homes.
