My mom was crying about a co-worker not being fair about some of the work that she was given and trying to console her I threatened to hit her co-worker with a wooden bat.

This would fit in the concrete operational stage in Piaget's theory in cognitive development. Being able to have empathy for others and being about to comfort them.
