"The announced purchase by the Government of 1000 acres in the Mangere area for housing purposes has aroused fears in the mind of some adjacent local body administrators lest this area should become another Otara with substandard housing, congested living and a lack of initial services and amenities. The land bought is bounded by Massey, Buckland and Kirkbride Roads and much of it has been used for town supply dairy farms, market gardens and a private training track for racehorses.
