7 Dez 1941 Jahr - Attack on Pearl Harbor
Beschreibung:
Japan’s attack on US Pacific naval base in Hawaii resulting from resentment of US’s ever-growing influence on Asia and the placement of economic sanctions on Japan limiting the use of US exports such as oil, iron, and machinery.
Japanese Response: The western nations were attempting to restrict Japanese expansion and Pearl Harbor was in retaliation of these restrictions. The United States limited the import of raw materials to Japan, as Japan had little to no raw materials on their island they had to rely on imports, in hope to end their military expansion in East-Asia through creating economic pressure with the raw materials.
International Response: President Franklin Roosevelt called the unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor a “date which will live in infamy,” in a famous address to the nation delivered after Japan's deadly strike against U.S. naval and military forces in Hawaii. He also asked Congress to declare war. This was the start of the United States’ involvement in WWII.
