Ebbinghaus focused on the psychological field of memory. He did so by using himself as a subject of observation and eventually devised 2,300 three-letter nonsense syllables. These syllables are used for measuring the formation of mental associations. Furthermore, he came to the conclusion that memory is orderly using his invention and meticulous treatment of data. Another finding of his on memory was the "Forgetting Curve" concept where memory is gradually forgotten over time.
